The following organizations can guide you through a difficult situation or assist you with an uncomfortable and/or unsafe work environment.
The National Sexual Assault Hotline number is 800-656-HOPE (4673).
Forward Counseling is a resource for those in need of counseling after a traumatic event. They sometimes offer sliding scale.
Their services include:
- Group, Individual, Family, and Couples Counseling
- Personal Training, Yoga and Nutrition Consultation Services
- Physician Services with an emphasis on Adolescent Medicine, Child and Adult Wellness, Nutrition and Nootropics.
State law requires anyone who suspects child sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse or neglect is required to report to state authorities. Reports can be made to the Tennessee Child Abuse Hotline at 877-237-0004 or to law enforcement.
The Memphis Child Advocacy Center offers free and confidential forensic interviewing, advocacy, and therapy for youth in Shelby County who have been victims of sexual or severe physical abuse. Youth are referred to the center by either the Department of Children Services or law enforcement. The Memphis Child Advocacy Center also offers child sexual abuse prevention training to adults and organizations along with consultation on organizational policy to protect children. Kindred (formerly The Exchange Club Family Center) provides mental health services for children, adults, and families. Individual counseling is available on a sliding scale fee and some therapists specialize in trauma counseling. Call 901-276-2200 or visit exchangeclub.net
Shelby County Rape Crisis Center provides free and confidential forensic nursing services, advocacy, and counseling following sexual violence regardless of whether a report is made to law enforcement. Call 901-222-4350 or visit shelbycountytn.gov/737/Rape-Crisis-Center
